I should add, how hard it must be for Social Terrain to climb the uphill battle to displace Facebook. Whew. Hats off to them. They've got to really educate us with reason(s) to migrate from the default FB.

I had a quick look at Social Terrain you mentioned and find I need a proper intro to find the advantages to small businesses here. Fan pages on Facebook is an obvious advantage. If there is such on Social Terrain it needs to add it to the list of icons. Social Media is so much more than private person to private person. I'll take a deeper look soon. Cheers, Kath

Informative post that you have. I stumbled on a new one the other day. They look open , but very similar to linkedin.com with more of a social business directory look and feel. Nice clean interface though. It's at Social Terrain.

Yes yes Johnny I fully agree with you. Twitter and Facebook have taken off big time here in NZ with active communities in small places like Whangarei...and showing good support for the businesses. At this point I'd say 'he who hesitates is...' There's plenty of time with some active kiwi small businesses taking the lead. Check my post or google on Social Media NZ and conference in Sydney dedicated to Soc Med NZ+ Aus. Wow. I need to buy lotto and go!

Great blog thanks Kath.
It's definitely got to be a reflection of New Zealand business sentiment. It's the fear of the unknown and concern of spending valuable time on something so new and not knowing the potential benefits.
