Twitter for Business

Twitter has gained enough critical mass or reached the tipping point or whatever that stage is when we can’t ignore it any longer.

I’ll trial it for six months, now that I’ve read the post by Jo Couchman (@nzwebwoman). I knew I couldn’t keep my head in the sand much longer. (There must be twitter-lingo for my non-twitter-status, my mind wonders.)

About her post Blog Weekly - Twitter Daily:  Jo gives us a couple great links.

  1. A NY Times writer on Twitter Pros and Cons with bottom line advice to learn as you go, don’t worry about t- rules or protocol.  Mainly, don’t let it waste your time, and you decide your own goals.  The examples make a lot of sense.
  2. Another link is to a Clickz article focusing on business outcomes from big business use of Twitter.  Saying that, we small business owners are used to translating some of the business advice and trends to our needs.  The examples again make sense.

Next week, I’ll give a very good reason to use Twitter to stay on top of customer service. Trust me, she says.

For Wordpress bloggers (me and many others), Jo tells us how to add the plugin.

My Twitter FeedFor all of us, Jo gives a demo on her right sidebar - My Twitter Feed.

Help abounts for Twitter:  Top 10 Twitter Tips for Beginners, 50 Ideas on Using Twitter for Business - includes first steps, what to talk about, some hints to keep sanity, the argument against twittering althought written with corporates in mind rather than micro (under 5) businesses.  As if that’s not enough Jack Lebond suggested: How to: Build Community on Twitter, Don’ts, and even on the lingo, twitterspeak.  The most recent advice from last weeks Entrepreneur Polls is common sense.

Well done Jo, @nzwebwoman.   It took your article and bits of the others for me to see past the time waster possibilities and see the possible advantages.

Working alone I often need some quick feedback or quick short diversion, or quick short ideas. My twitosphere will fill that role.  And, I’m happy to fill that role for my small network.

I’ve signed up to Twitter, for a trial period like I said at the start:  @kathkozel.  I decided to use my name after getting some advice on choosing a good Twitter username.

So now I’m a neweeter (new tweeter).  It may be twittastic (fantastic), if not I’ll get a twittectomy (you can guess what that is)!

  1. Gosh I have tried to twitter - But I must be a twit as it isnt working for me!

Apparently Twitter has a fall off rate of 60% in the first two months.

Maybe I am too old for this new-fangled technology!
