Search Queries Get Longer and Google Dominates
If you’re the type who likes charts and trends the latest from Hitwise shows Google now at 72 percent of all US searches leaving Yahoo and MSN flailing. Plus search queries are getting longer.
Most interesting to me is ….the trend for longer and longer seach queries, what I call keyword search phrases. The February 2009 report shows 35 percent of all queries are 4 to 8+ words.
This tells me there is growing opportunity for long-tail search phrases. Optimise for long precise phrases because there are numbers out there looking for exactly you. The longer, more specific keyword search phrases convert best to sales (read my article with specific examples), better than shorter generic search phrases.
Admittedly I find it hard to believe that nearly 3.5 percent of searches are for 8 plus words. Whew.

Really cool info.
I regularly use 4 - 8 words in Google!
In fact - if your computer ever starts playing games and giving you error messages…copy and paste the message into Google and they will tell you how to fix it!
In fact these days when you highlight text and right click - it even gives you the option of Google searching it right from there.
Big Brother maybe?! Well I like my new big brother!
