Kath’s Wish List Dec 2008

My Santa stocking isn’t up yet, but I’m getting my list ready early.  It may give you guys some ideas.  Once again I feel blessed with good health, loyal friends and a plenty of laughter.  However when asked, as no doubt I will be, …”What do you want this year?” I’ll have my list ready!

Gotta Have It, Don’t Need It, Just Want It - Wish list 2008.

I’ve spread out this year. Some items are available on Trade Me for example, #1. Some of the others are available online in NZ at Fishpond (and they deliver). Hint, hint Santa. The rest are available in my dreams.

1. Petrol powered daiquiri blenderan ear-popping-petrol-powered-daiquiri-wacker. (say that 5 times after testing this little beauty).  Thanks Lesley for sharing your find with me one late September night when you were trolling Trade Me for treasures.  Of course I quickly forwarded  it to other good friends known to hand carry their blender to Raro so as not to be without the equipment to go with duty free Rum.  This is a must have for them as they runaway to campervan around Europe. Don’t leave home without it!

Santa, for just $250 you get a 25cc, 7500 rpm. And, it’s fuel efficient! 500ml fuel makes 100 mixes. Turns ice cubes into snow in 30 seconds.  Read more about it. Imagine the noise you could make at a camp site and the hit you’d be as you served up slushies to anyone who approached to complain about the noise!

2. A jet-propelled wing, ala Fusionman, Yves Rossy. Watch his 22 mile flight across the English Channel on his homemade jet wing   YouTube.  Read more on the man and his inspiring accomplishment.

Watch Fusion man’s 13 minute flight (and landing) across the English Channel using a jet wingIf I had a jet-propelled wing, I could get anything I ever wanted out of my darling flight-crazy husband, Matt. Personally I’d rather play Carribean Stud and just watch video’s of someone strapped in the jet-wing. After reading the rest of my list you’ll know I would be sipping red wine and listening to the Conchords while I watched the wing in action, waiting to watch Mama Mia. Any volunteers for the wing?

3.  Caribbean Stud Poker home game.  It’s the first game to be added by casinos in over 100 years.  Admittedly a long-time advocate of Blackjack I’ve recently been lurking the Caribbean Stud tables.  Carribean Stud Poker card gameAfter winning two hundred bucks on my first foray at Sky City I figure practicing at home with my friends could mean honing my skills with lots of laughter.  I’m already laughing. While hunting for an  image I found a google result for NZQA accredited education organisations in Taupo-Rotorua for Casino Gaming qualifications.  Guess I could bypass the home version and go straight for a NZ higher ed qualification in my retirement.  The mind boggles.

4. Mama Mia DVD.  A chick party isn’t complete without it.  This version even has the words on screen to make it an easy sing-along.  The story behind this wish is my conversion to fan status.  I’ve never been an Abba fan. Too much fluff. Mamma Mia Then I saw Meryl Streep singing and dancing and, those boys. What fun! (Listen to me, I know how this sounds). I refused invitations by friends to see the movie thinking (knowing) I would hate it. But alas, one night the movie provided a few hours refuge from a house full of musos having a rehearsal.  Even my 75+ year old neighbor said, ‘Oh Kath, you must see it. It’s jolly good fun!”  She what right! They all were. I laughed and giggled like a school girl. And, did I say, sang along with abandoned!  Gotta have this one. Available through Fishpond.

5.  Obama’s Audacity of Hope. I want 100 copies to give away to friends.  The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American DreamI read it earlier this year since it looked like Obama was going to beat out my first choice, Hillary. I read it and was converted to being an Obama T-shirt wearer.  If you haven’t read it do yourself a favour over the summer and hear his own words, often more candid than I’ve heard any public figure.  Guess that’s what appealed to the majority and the world. Also available in NZ at Fishpond at a discount with 24 hour delivery.

6.  Flight of the Conchords. I want to celebrate our kiwis boys made good.  My right sidebar shows video clips that make me laugh.  Flight of the Conchords [Digipak]There they are, doing their worm dance. But I love their music. Catchy tunes, hilarious lyrics. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement on the world’s stage gaining the fame they deserve as song writers, singers, and comedians.  They do very clever parody of bossa nova, Pet Shop Boys and even David Bowie. But even if you don’t enjoy them on the head level, you can enjoy them on a musical level.  All great fun.  I want it to keep smiling all 2009.  The whole Flight of the Conchords digipak is available at Fishpond.

7.  Church Road Reserve Syrah 2007.  It’s just received top alcolades so I must have a taste, or two.  I do love my red wine. After tasting around Otago last year I have been stuck in my Otago Pinot rut. (What a rut to be in.) I’m ready to jump to a NZ Syrah eventhough a bit skeptic.  Like you all, I’ve heard this Church Road is the best of the best so I must have a taste.  Not for sale until February. 2009.  I can wait for good things. Santa, I’ll take a rain check. Thanks.  Reading the notes on Church Road, they’ve stopped exporting to Australia and UK to meat local demand. Good for us. Plus they have a function centre bringing in Simply Red this summer.  Santa, I could do that!

8.  A trip to the moon.Lunar Travel.  Why not! Book me asap.  I’ll be packed in a minute.  It was a highlight to visit Antarctica in January 2008. The vast nothingness appealed in a way that led me to an astronomy class this year and now I’m looking at Virgin Galactic for tickets to outer space. Perhaps even stay at the Lunar Hilton. Ten years ago a British architect Peter Inston was paid $300,000 for preliminary blueprints. Guess there were numerous engineering challenges and safety hazards for his glass dome design. But how are the beds? One day Santa, one day.

All done wishin’ (sound like Sarah Palin, ugh). Last year it was 10 items, this year only 8.  Looks like I’ve filled all my senses!

If Santa misses me this year, I’ll be happy anyway. I’m blessed with friends and family and readers that fill me with laughter love and meaning.  And, Obama was elected!  That’s all more than I could wish for.

What’s on your list?
