SEO Research Tools Available for Determining Keywords
Several free research tools are available when doing SEO work to check you have the right keyword search phrases for your website. The phrases your customers use to search for you are what’s important, not what you call yourself.
For background you can read my other articles on keyword search phrases as the foundation of a website and and keyword search phrases for SEO (search engine optimisation.). I’ve the importance of using their words, not yours.
By far my default tool is the free Keyword Idea Tool from Google. You can research their databases of searches done in each country Google is in. How’s that for valuable info! I wouldn’t be without this tool, but it’s not the only tool I use.
Plenty of tools exist. Some better than others. Depends on the decision you are trying to make and the type data that will help you.
To look at the popularity of search terms on a macro level I use free Trellian Term Suggestion Tool. You don’t get where the data was collected or who was doing the search but it is nevertheless helpful.
To compare two or more phrases you can use Google Trends. It offers up lots of info by region, city and by time. Use this one when making a decision between two commonly voiced phrases. You would to find the search phrase most searchers use online. You get nice blue vs red results in two types of graphs. It’s a jewel.
Google Trends has feature I don’t use and thus ignore (and probably don’t understand). Some of these tools can offer way more than you need to make decisions.
Sing out if you have a favorite research tool. Share your knowledge and experience. I remain eager to learn a new trick.
