Good Intentions Lead to the Bank
The Internet breeds good intention
Gone are the days of surfing the net for fun. Today, business website users have intention. They come intending to buy, to enquire, to book, to read, to solve their problem and thus are likely to become loyal customers. These customers with good intentions are what business website dream about.
Avoid silly time wasting lookie-loos
You want lots of visitors but not just any ol’ visitor. You want visitors with… intention. Intention to buy, or sell, or enquire, or book or whatever it is that your website prompts them to do.
A common misunderstanding
I hear from time to time owners say they will do anything to get more website traffic. They think the more visitor numbers the better. Not necessarily so.
You don’t want huge numbers of lookie-loos. Traffic reports can help see how many visitors land and look around or land and leave. Some are to be expected but you want a Sticky site brings your target customer because you can solve their problem. Right.
Land and leave
Big numbers of visitors who click off in seconds. Your traffic report (stats) show huge numbers that land and leave. Why would this happen? Because they were mislead by your ‘keyword search phrases’ that inferred you were something your homepage clearly shows you are not.
Misleading info used to get big numbers
I’ve seen this happen with accommodation owners who use ‘Bay of Islands’ in their page construction because the Bay is a known, popular destination that the research data shows is often searched for.
Duped?
However, being on the way to the Bay of Islands is not the same as being in the Bay of Islands. Close is okay, but 2 hours and 100 miles away? Misleading. Visitors who think you mean near, will no doubt click off as soon as they see the truth and grumble your name under their breath in irritation at being duped.
I have one bit of qualifying info here regarding stats on click offs. You will always have more people landing on your site that you wonder, why don’t I hear from these people? Because even with intention, searchers land on pages they just don’t belong on. They click off. Fine, but we don’t want huge numbers of these. Sticky Websites bring in the right customers.
Use accurate keyword search phrases and trust that your visitors will be in the mood, come with full intention, to respond to your calls to action.
Just what dreams are made of. You can bank on it.
