First Page or Oblivion

Ranking on the first page is everything when it comes to search engine visibility. The huge Microsoft study of users from early 2007 showed searchers just write a new search phrase again if they don’t find a site to answer their question in the first page. Those are the constraints we have to live with.

It’s Googles FaultBecause Google has become so good at delivering up promising query results, searchers have come to expect they’ll l find what  they’re looking for within the top group. So they don’t find what they’re looking for in the top page, they figure it must be me, and try another search phrase.

The lesson for you as the business website owner… optimise your site deliberately for accurate keyword search phrases your customers use.  Not ones you think they’ll use, ones the research tells you they use.

Tools for doing your research are available.  Some are free, some cost.  Some are complicated for the pros. Some are easy.

Over the years I created a few tools to help clients do as much as possible for themselves.  Here I freely share my experience. Use my Free DIY Resources and these posts…all free or go the Help Shop for a low cost organising tool.
